A Recap of SEMA 2025: Iconic Brand, Unforgettable Build
A Recap of SEMA 2025: Iconic Brand, Unforgettable Build
<< BackThis year, the WD-40® Brand brought its most ambitious project ever to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas—and the fans showed up in force. Our new booth had prime placement in Central Hall and had the honor of hosting one of the show’s most beautiful specimens of automotive engineering : a custom-built resurrection of a wrecked 2005 Ford GT. Our friends at Throtl brought this wrecked legend back to life with a massive amount of passion and effort. Don’t know the story? Catch up here.
From the moment the sheet-pull revealing the Ford GT on Day 1, it was clear this wasn't just another SEMA debut. This undertaking was the culmination of months of work, a partnership built on trust and expertise, and the results were magnificent.
The Ford GT: From Wreckage to Center Stage
Over 6,000 people came to our booth throughout the show. The energy in the air was palpable, and we have you to thank for it. To everyone who stopped by our booth, watched the live streams, followed the build on YouTube, and shared your own stories with the WD-40 Brand—we owe you our gratitude. The 2025 SEMA Show was truly unforgettable.
When Throtl and the WD-40 Brand announced this partnership, the challenge was clear: take a wrecked 2005 Ford GT—with no manual, no roadmap, structural damage that would make most builders walk away—and transform it into a show-stopping custom build destined to become a crown jewel of the event.
The team delivered.
The finished Ford GT that debuted at our booth wasn't just restored. It was a reimagined work of art. Authentic Doran GT2 carbon fiber body kit. Custom HRE 305 forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R rubber. Wilwood big brake kit. Fortune Auto coilovers. Custom 3D-printed headlights. A full CSF cooling package and custom Vibrant titanium exhaust. Every component chosen with purpose. Every upgrade serving the build's ultimate goal: honoring the Ford GT's racing heritage while pushing performance boundaries.
Throughout the build, WD-40 Brand products played a critical role—from WD-40 Multi-Use Product loosening seized fasteners and protecting against corrosion, to WD-40 Specialist® Penetrant breaking through decades of rust, to WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner keeping electrical connections reliable. These weren't products used for show. They were the solutions that enabled the project to move from dream to reality.
The result? A Ford GT supercar that proved what's possible when skills and expertise meet the right tools and raw tenacity.
A New Era for the WD-40 Brand Booth
SEMA 2025 marked more than just the Ford GT debut. It represented a complete transformation of the WD-40 Brand presence at the SEMA Show.
This year we made the move to Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center—a larger space in the heart of the action. Our newly built booth allowed us to showcase not just the Classic WD-40 Multi-Use Products that have been solving problems for over 70 years, but the full range of WD-40 Specialist Brand products designed for specific challenges.
- WD-40 Specialist Penetrant – helping break through the toughest rust
- WD-40 Specialist Gel Lube - for heavy-duty lubrication and protection
- WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner – offers reliable performance with electronics & electrical connections
The Ford GT sat at the center of it all. A rolling testament to what happens when you combine mechanical excellence, grit & determination, and products that actually work.
The Giveaways Everyone Wanted
If you attended SEMA 2025, you know two things were in high demand at the WD-40 Brand booth: the coveted WD-40 Brand lanyard and the limited-edition WD-40 Precision Pen featuring the Throtl Ford GT.
The lanyard became the must-have accessory of the show—a simple but functional way for SEMA-goers to carry their badges in style with a brand they trust. Obtaining the coveted blue-and-yellow lanyards became a goal for many attendees throughout the convention center all week.
The limited-edition Precision Pen featuring the Ford GT was even more special. Only available at SEMA 2025, this functional tool combines the precision application you need for detailed work with an image celebrating the iconic build that brought so many people together. Compact enough to fit in a glove box, tool bag, or pocket, it's the kind of gift that actually gets used—perfect for lubricating hinges, loosening stuck fasteners, protecting battery terminals, and reaching tight spots where larger cans can't fit.
Both were available free to anyone who signed up for the WD-40 Brand newsletter at our booth—and the response was overwhelming. If you grabbed one (or both), you're now part of a community that values practical solutions and quality tools. If you missed out, there's still time to join. The Ford GT Debut: Live from SEMA
On Tuesday morning, the first day of the event, SEMA doors opened at 9:00 AM. By 9:30 AM, the WD-40 Brand booth was packed – the big reveal soon to show off the beautiful supercar beneath the sheet.
Evan Beckerman and Mickey Andrade from Throtl talked the crowd through the build—the challenges faced, the solutions found, the moments when success wasn't guaranteed but determination won out. Then came the moment of the big reveal, a sheet pull by the the builders followed thunderous applause, photos, questions, and genuine appreciation for a project capturing heritage, performance, and a beautiful aesthetic.
SEMA Live captured it all, conducting interviews with the Throtl team on Day 1 and Day 3 that gave viewers around the world an inside look at what it took to bring the Ford GT back from the edge.
For those who couldn't make it to Las Vegas, the live streams on SEMA Live, the WD-40 Brand social channels, and Throtl's platforms brought the experience home. Thousands watched online as the Ford GT made its debut, proving that while being there in person was special, the reach of this project extended far beyond the convention center floor.
WD-40 Brand and Throtl in the Media
The Ford GT didn't just turn heads at SEMA—it earned recognition from some of the most respected names in automotive media.
- Road & Track called it out in their feature "Rebuilding a Wrecked 2005 Ford GT Is Not for the Faint of Heart," highlighting the technical challenges and the expertise required to pull off a build of this magnitude.
- Ford Muscle covered the reveal in "SEMA 2025: WD-40 And Throtl Reveal Carbon-Fiber Ford GT Project," diving into the specifics of the custom upgrades and race-inspired modifications.
- MotorTrend's Hot Rod featured the GT in their roundup "Ford-Powered and Proud: The Finest Fords of SEMA 2025," placing it among the best Ford builds at the entire show.
Social media coverage came from Hot Rod on Instagram, Hot Cars, and countless automotive enthusiasts who shared their own photos and videos of the build.
The Road Ahead
The SEMA debut was the beginning, not the end. The Ford GT isn't heading to a climate-controlled garage to gather dust. It was built to be driven—and the Throtl team is taking it on a US tour, putting every upgrade and every hour of work to the test in real-world conditions. Follow Throtl's social channels to track where the GT shows up next—and if it comes to your area, don't miss the chance to see it in person.

Cheers to problems that are worth solving, and to more positive lasting memories with the WD-40 Brand.
