WD-40 COMPANY ASKS CONSUMERS TO SHARE MONEY-SAVING STORIES, OFFERS SPECIAL DISCOUNT ON WD-40 NO-MESS PEN

As consumers and trade professionals look for creative ways to save amidst challenging economic times, WD-40 Company is encouraging its users to share money-saving tips and tricks on its new social network – The Money-Saving Tool community.

The site – www.wd40uses.com – allows members to submit stories, photos and videos showing the creative ways they protect their investments and avoid paying for expensive repairs or replacement items.  The first 40 participants in The Money-Saving Tool community will receive a “WD-40® Value Pack” containing a WD-40 Smart Straw® can, WD-40 Big Blast can and WD-40 No-Mess PenTM.

“For more than 50 years, we’ve received stories of people using WD-40 to restore an old lawnmower or loosen a rusty plumbing joint,” said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of marketing for WD-40 Company.  “As the economy forces all of us to get more creative with what we have, we are encouraging our users to share these stories with others and, perhaps, save someone from making an unnecessary purchase or trip to the repair shop.” 

In addition to hosting the online community where consumers share ways to save money, WD-40 Company is providing an easy way to save by offering its WD-40 No-Mess Pen, the compact version of America’s favorite multi-purpose problem-solver, for 99 cents at 99¢ Only Stores® and other participating retailers.  The size of a highlighter, the product fits in glove boxes, drawers and purses, and is great for everything from lubricating drawer hinges to penetrating stuck appliance knobs.

Visitors to The Money-Saving Tool site can also learn easy and cost-effective strategies for making their homes more energy-efficient through the community’s Online Energy Efficiency Workshop.  Developed by Rebuilding Together®, a national nonprofit organization that rehabilitates the homes of low-income homeowners, the workshop serves as a resource for tips on how to save money on things like heating and cooling bills.  Visitors can also join the WD-40 Fan Club, which enables members to share uses and stories, access free downloads and special offers, and browse a list of more than 2,000 uses for the WD-40.
